I'm looking to purchase a classic Mini and would like some advice about one I'm considering. I know some folks here have classics.
Feel free to PM me and maybe we can chat via email? I have several pictures that the current owner has sent me that I can forward to you.
Thanks.

Find one you like.
Avoid rust.
Don't really know of anything more that can be said.

Oh. And if you've never driven one, you need to. You'll be surprised. The lack of power steering, the 4-speed gear box, the road (engine) noise, and the driving position are things that come to mind. It can be a very different world.

Thanks for responding and for the advice. I also have been emailing with another member and got some good advice. Much appreciated.
The Mini we are looking at is in pretty decent shape but does have some rust...but all of them that we have seen have some rust to some degree. I think we are going to get it, but now we are considering how to transport it....from where it is now and for taking it to MOTD, etc. it's an automatic, so flat towing is out of the question. Hopefully we will get things sorted out and I will post pics if/when we get it.
Thanks.
Chris

MOTD?
Mine was really easy to get done. VIN check. Then off to the BMV. Was in and out of there in about 20 mins.
Drive it if you can.
That's how mine got here. Drove from Tulsa in -10F. I wouldn't recommend THAT extreme, but the drive, as long as its under 5 hrs and above 40F would be a great opportunity.
That being said, if this mechanic that mine's at works out, I'll pass on the info.

Oh... and before you get too far... verify the title. 25yrs+ for Indiana on these.

MOTD = Minis On the Dragon
The car is in Kansas City, so a bit far to go in a little car like that. Currently looking for a used car dolly to pick up on the cheap, but the decent cheap ones tend to go pretty quickly. I've seen folks online use the uhaul dolly with success, but the ramps come a bit too close to the rockers on the Mini for my comfort. Also considering a car hauler.
The car was imported back in '03 I think and now has a Missouri title...so shouldn't be an issue getting titled here. I will check to make sure, though. Thanks again for the tips.

Well a decision has been made and we are going to pick the car up on Saturday morning. I was able to find a decent deal on a really nice car dolly and grab it last week. The ramps detach for transport and it has surge disc brakes. I'll post a pic or two when she's in my possession, but here's one that I have to share now...

Well we went to pick up the Mini this weekend. She was a little rougher than I had hoped, but not terrible. The car has been stored for a year or so without running much and seem pretty cold blooded. I think the carburetor probably needs going through. Also there are some electrical gremlins to chase down...no surprise there though. Here she is...

We've been working hard on the old Mini. All of the electrical bugs are worked out and everything works now like it should. There's still a starting issue which I think may be a weak fuel pump...Takes a bit of cranking to get it going after the car has been sitting a day or two, otherwise it starts and runs great. She's plated, insured, and on the road...so you may see me zipping around town one of these days. I currently have a new set of tires on order to put on the other set of Minilite wheels that came with the car. For now the car is sporting an older set on steelies (that I spray painted to make a bit more presentable). It's a real challenge finding 10" tires that don't cost and arm and a leg! Next plan is to do some "union jack-ification" to the exterior to detract from the 70s Antique Gold color. On the lift while repairing a broken exhaust bracket... Running around town... A gift from one of my friends...LOL
