#1 I know what the dealer is telling me and I know what the car is telling me but out of curiosity, how often are you ladies and gentleman changing your oil? N18 engine by the way.
#2 Got some nasty swirl marks on the black paint, I know that black is the worst but its there, I am trying to use the best micro fiber mitts and waffle weave towels i can get. Hate to take a polisher to a fairly new car, any ideas or suggestions on products for washing to limit this in future? I am using the 2 bucket method to limit contaminates as well.
Sorry not so quick, thanks for any insight.

I run the random orbital polisher on my car at least twice a year with Griot's #3 machine polish and paint sealer combination. And I agree with Dallas, every 5000 miles no more than 7500.

I have had good luck with the Griot's #3 polish and orbital polisher as well.
As for the oil, I change mine usually between 5,000 and 7,500 miles but max. 7,500 miles.

I use Griot's #3 as well and change the oil between 5k-7k.
Question for you self oil changers, where is the best place to get filters? I had ordered them from Detroit tuned in the past but didn't know what options other people used.

Change it every 5k miles, your car will last longer and not get sludged up.

Thank you everyone for the info, this is what I had been finding in my own research. Unfortunately it leads to another question. We have the 60k service plan through the dealer, The car has been stating that the oil change should occur at 8k If I change it at 5k how does this work with the dealer schedule? Will they still do it once a year even if its only been 5k since i changed? Please excuse the newbie Questions this is our first mini and want to make it last.

If they say 8k and u want more like 5k I would split the service time in 1/2. Change every 4k, the more you change it the better and changing 1 I early isn't going to be a bad thing.

The dealer does not know that it has been changed in between thier service times, they go only on what the car is telling them. You will not be resetting the system when you do your change.
But would agree, if it is going to be 8k when they do it then you should change it at 4k.

Hate to take a polisher to a fairly new car, any ideas or suggestions on products for washing to limit this in future? I am using the 2 bucket method to limit contaminates as well. Sorry not so quick, thanks for any insight. Using the two bucket method is a step in the right direction. Not too many people know about this method so I commend you. Are you using grit guards in both buckets? For a washing agent I would recommend this: www.detailedimage.com/wax.php?id=20885&url=detailedimage.com/Optimum-OPT-M36/No-Rinse-Wash-Shine-2010-Formula-P444/32oz-S1/It's really great stuff and eliminates rinsing the car off. It can also be used as a quick detailer and or used with claying. Other than what you have stated there's not much more you can do to prevent spider webbing/swirling other than using clean towels every time. Clean towels are very essential. As for polishing, there's no adverse effects to the paint when using a DA and polish. You can put 50 coats of polish on the MINI, if that's your thing, it won't hurt the paint. Just make sure you are using a polish that have no cutting agents. I detail cars as a side business so I've used many products. If you have any questions or product recommendations I'd be happy to share.
