I didn't happen to see those two MGs driving south on Zionsville Rd yesterday, did I? I wasn't in my Mini, but definitely saw two MGs yesterday on my drive.. I know there's members here (like me) with classics and some of them plan to attend the car union's show in Zionsville next month...

Yes, there was a big MG event this past week in Indy called "The Gathering of the Faithful". The car show was held at the Indianapolis Executive airport west of Westfield. Bobby D.

Hello, we are Ken and Sue from SoCal, Southern California Mini Maniacs. We will be in the area for a few weeks and would like to join you while we are here. We drive an '06 CooperS and an '09 JCW, which we have with us. Both are Chili Red. The JCW took us to the Salt Flats and got both of us into the 130 Club, still shaking out salt. Happy to be Back Home in Indiana after having been gone for many, many years.

My name is Bruce. I'm in the last throws of buying my first Mini. This is the second time I have looked at this unique automobile. Last time I got talked into a 370Z. Way to limited by it's ground clearance and fair weather only capability. 2014, pearl white, with tan leather. Beautiful toy car you can drive 7 months a year in Indiana. It's for sale! I'm 69 and retiring in 1 1/2 years. I have a home in Marion County where I will retire. Want a fun car I can drive all year round and travel in as well. I am looking at the John Cooper. I rode motorcycles for many years. Of course, farkeling is a major part of biking. Mini's are famous for that. Everyone wants his own version. That also attracts me to the car. The first car I bought with my own money was an MG B. Loved it. Had a buddy at the time who raced a Mini. Buying a Mini just seems right in all manner of ways. I looked at the threads and am not sure where to inquire about Mini etiquette. I was at the dealer yesterday and the salesman made the comment that a John Cooper Edition should have a red roof. Huh? 90% of all of the Minis I see have black roofs, including the John Cooper Editions. The web site has a chili red with a white roof, which I really really like. Would be beautiful with white stripes on the bonnet. The black ones in the gallery have red roofs, but that seems color appropriate. Any etiquette on this? Anyone know why the green is a $1,000.00 up-charge? It's not the color I remember as British racing green. I remember that green as lighter. Any thoughts on the 18" wheels and snow? I see that you can order with all season tires. Any info on whether the red fades? In years past no European car painted red would hold up, at least in North America. Think everyone used a paint of German origin, can't remember the company name. Pretty excited about this purchase!

Bruce, glad to know you are looking at getting a MINI, of course I think it is a great car choice. My first car was an MGB as well, great choice there as well, just needed a bit more care and maintenance. As for color choices and options, I think that is a very personal thing and should be whatever you like best. The red roof is a JCW only option, which is why the salesman was suggesting that, but again personal choice, it certainly is a JCW identifier for those who would know. As for 18" wheels, it is more personal preference, a little less cushion, but what do you like in the looks. I have two sets of wheels, one with summer performance tires for the summer and one with all seasons for the winter, better traction in both cases. I have not seen any indication of the red fading on MINI's nor heard of that. The green paint is a metallic paint I believe, which is the reason for the price increase, where the red is not. By the way I have a JCW MINI, does not have a red roof and is sitting on 17" wheels. Hope to meet you and your new MINI sometime soon. In fact come join us before you get the MINI, would be glad to talk MINI anytime. Greg

Hey Greg, I'm a hoosier but went to school in the South. Thus the Hey greeting! I have done some research. John Cooper, the son of the founder, campaigned the mini car in rallys in chili red with a white top. The Indy car and the formula one cars were British racing green with a white stripe. Thanks for the info on the red top only on the JCW cars. I have been a BMW motorcycle rider for years and giving it up as I don't think I could survive a bad off very well at 69. Had some of those and walked away as a younger man! Still love everything fast and crazy. My 370Z is just amazing, but not an all year round driver. Think I will come to some meetings to get a feel for the venue. See you soon at a cult meeting.
