- I am a new, first time MINI owner of 5 whole days. I have yet to completely read my manual to figure out all of the bells and whistles.......... do have an inquiry though - can anyone advise if it is important to have more than one remote for starting my MINI, and if so, are they expensive? I understand that the key only opens the door but does not start the car. What if I misplace my remote....................

I have an older MINI (2005) and the key and remote are one, but I understand they are pretty expensive to replace and would assume that is true with the new remotes as well. If you do not get a response here you might call D&R and just ask what the cost would be.

There is no NEED to have a second remote, just makes life easier to get in the car. But if you want a second remote be prepaired they are about $300 for one.

Okay, I guess I'm really stupid, but I thought the remote was the only way to start my car.
