So, I'm new to my Mini, 07 MCS with almost 20,000 miles on it. Bought it a couple weeks ago at a Mazda dealer. It goes in for service next week at Dreyer, it's still under the maint. agreement and warranty, so that's good, it is going in for an oil change and I want them to look at a few other things as well.
Can anyone give me some info on tires for these? The stock all-season Continental runflats still have some tread, but not the best and ride like crap. I was thinking Kumho AST's in the same size. My question is, how are these cars with some snow on the ground? I live east and work west in the city, so I'll be driving through it in this car.
I was also hoping to meet up with some local Mini owners here in Indy as well, but don't have a lot of free time. I'd love to see some other cars and what you've done. Possibly find some used parts from other owners as well. I've been searching for a used Crown Spoke wheel for mine, seems the previous owner curbed them all.
I've posted some of these on NAM, but would rather get a local response here...
Thanks, Christian.

Christian, I like to run all seasons in the winter and put performance tires on during the summer month. The all seasons work fine in all but deep snow. I do not know how the Khumo AST's do, so maybe somebody else can comment.
As for meeting up with other MINI owners, you can check on the events forum to see if there is an event that works with your schedule. We have a monthly gathering on the second Monday of each month and there generally is at least one other event on a Saturday or Sunday each month.
I have purchased wheel and tires from local members and NAM in the past, just have to catch the right deal.

Throw out the runflats. I use BFG Goodrich G force sports and totally happy with them. The Yoko S drives are also great.

I run with the Kumho ASTs and have for the past couple of years (year round)... without issue. That said I trust Way's opinion and will be switching to the BF Goodrich once these wear away.

Thanks guys, I'll probably get new tires here in the next couple weeks.
I'll check the events forum.
I can't wait to go into service Tuesday, my keyless ignition key is not wanting to come out very easily, among a couple rattles I want to get addressed as well.
I do love this car btw. Just drove up to Wabash, where I'm from, averaged 34mpg.

For me it has never been about the mpg it always been more about the fpm (fun per mile).

'09 S with Crown Spokes Now, cleaned 'em up from tar etc. with some bug 'n tar remover and a scratch pad -first time I've ever done such with my MINI. When all finished I was horrified to discover the rims were all scratched with this cleaning. I've done this countless times with my other autos with similar rims -an Accord, a Camry, a Ford Ranger. Didn't realize this car was so DELICATE. NEVER experienced this any other times. Question: NOW WHAT? I've spritzed a gob of good 'ol Armor All all over 'em just to hide the blemishes temporarily, but what can be done for the long run (like tomorrow, or the next day)? Some kinda wax maybe? I'm half sick...

Not sure if this will help your situation, but I have had good luck with "Wheel Wax" for shining up the wheels and keeping them a little easier to clean the break dust off.

thanks for the response I'll give it a try. I see via the internet that I can get Wheel Wax at D&R. I'm pretty confident that the wheels are coated with a protectant that's on the order of a hard plastic. (-or, actually NOT so hard plastic) Would some kind of plastic polish be of use BEFORE I wax them? I saw "Meguiar's PlastX clear plastic cleaner and polisher" at an auto parts store...I'll ask at D&R about all of this, too.
Thanks for the help.
