Well this will be the first year that I've had a MINI and wont be going to MOTD Decided last year that we didn't want to go back for a few reasons. But I guess that it's probably worked out for the best anyway, driving the Dragon with an pregnant woman who will be 8 months by that time probably isn't the best of ideas .

Congratulation on the new addition to the family. You are probably right in not taking the pregnant wife on the dragon.

Both Seymour and Tazmini will be going if anyone wants to tag along on Wednesday morning with us. Let us know if you do. Wanda

It's a toss up right now, been twice looks like it will be improved over the past, Snooter is doing a great job planning it all.

I'm planning to go....meeting my friend from TN (also a MINI owner) there like last year. This year we are staying in the lodge. After taking a chance and rooming with a guy we didn't know last year (who turned out to be a bit "psychologically unstable"), we made the reservation at Fontana Lodge before leaving.
Can't wait!

The registration fee is only $5 this year, unlike previous years that had an unreasonably high fee. Hopefully everyone that is planning to go will register so that this event will continue for years to come.
There seems to be more events this year also. It looks like more planning is going in to it this year than previous years. I hope this continues.

This year there are more things to do than there is time! I am excited that there is a dinner with a sunset view as well as we might be able to see some elk. For you more adventurous types, there is a zip line event as well as jet boat on the river ride. Prices are very reasonable this year, and I am looking forward to a wine swap as well as a beer swap. Looks like loads of fun this year and I am excited, but there isn't enough time to do it all. Even Way Motor Works is hosting a party. Some of the events are quickly filling up as there are a limited amount of spots. Hurry and get on the lists for some fun at the dragon this year. Wanda

Unfortunately it is way too early to even know if we/I'll be able to make this.
I was looking at the list of places to stay and trying to figure out where to start. How long is the drive to Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg from all of this?

I highly recommend staying at the Fontana. Most everything stages from there. It also allows you to have all the fun you want each day/evening and not HAVE to drive home afterward. It makes the experience richer IMO.
Finding a room/cabin is generally easier as the event gets nearer and people find out they can't attend.

How long is the drive to Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg from all of this? Gatlinburg is a pretty good haul to Fontana, even taking the Foothills Pkwy, is would be about 2 hours away. I agree with Mini Fireman that it is best to stay at Fontana if you can. Robbinsville would be my next choice. We have been to all MOTDs but the first one, stayed in Robbinsville the first year and it wasn't too bad, but the rest have been at Fontana. Just my .02.
