Anyone know why the volume on the radio automatically turns itself down ? I noticed it on longer rides with volume high.....

I think it is controlled a little but by your speed. So as you slow down it would decrease.

There is a adjustment for the speed sensitive volume on your radio under when your press the musical note on your radio display. You can turn up or down on the sensitivity.

Hi, Just read your post about volume turning itself down.
Not sure if this is the same problem I am having or not........ With volume cranked, after maybe 30-45 minutes, the volume adjusts down by about half, and I can't adjust it back up for several minutes. Then after 1-2 minutes it will adjust itself down again. I have it in the dealer shop and they can't find a problem and can't get the issue to reproduce itself. On a side note, just discovered today that the loaner they gave me does the exact same thing. I can't help but think the amp is overheating.
I will repost with whatever results the dealer comes up with.

okay, so dealership was able to recreate the problem I was having. was told they compared mine to another and the radio failed about twice as quickly as the other car. they are going to replace the amplifier......which I HOPE will take care of the problem.

(: okay, here's the next page in the saga......turns out that since I do not have the premium sound package, there is no separate amplifier, so they replaced the radio head (2nd time for this car). Service department direction: "don't play radio on high volume for extended periods". I was not happy/satisfied with that result, so am working with John Collins and Tom R. in service to see what can be done about it---since this did not resolve the volume-dropping issue. next page in saga to come

and again, the continuing saga: Tom R. came back with offer of $ from Mini to trade up to a different car with premium sound. Not real happy with that option. My salesman indicated there is a Alpine retrofit radio that could solve my problem (has a separate amplifier). After a couple of weeks of checking into this, all we get is maybe it will retrofit and maybe it won't retrofit. I'm now waiting to see if the dealership will try this option or not. guess I may be a little different for driving with windows open, sunroof open, and radio blasting during my longer distance trips
