Anybody ever thought about contacting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, to see about setting a MINI only event, to run a few hot laps around the track?
Or... the road course at Raceway Park?

Interesting ideas... I know that D&R spends between $5,000 and $10,000 to sponsor their various track days at New Castle Motorsports Park, they invite their customers to these at no cost. I don't think anyone has pursued any other locations, but cost (and insurance) would be an issue. The Indy British Car Union does have a Rally in which they get a "parade lap" around IMS, similar to what we did for MTTS 2006.

Yikes. I had no idea it cost them that much to rent that track. Don't forget Putnam Park. That's not too far away, but I'd hate to think how much it would cost to rent out a whole large track like that.

Yikes. I had no idea it cost them that much to rent that track. I was a little shocked when I heard those numbers bounced around too... then I had to chuckle to myself and remember all the people who would suggest that the club put more of these events on and just charge the members... they even said they would be willing to pay a portion of it. Hmmm... let's see for a weekend a year in advance, knowing the numbers we tend to get when it is free- that would only be $350 per person not including whatever we would need to do for insurance. Wait... I would guess that only about half of the people who attend would actually be willing to pay... so let's be conservative and say $750 per person not including insurance. I'm happy with the couple times a year for free. I do think it would be nice to have some of our more experienced drivers out there showing people how to properly drive the course. Maybe even set up cones to help mark the apex for newer drivers. Hold a MINICCI driving school for part of the day?
