Ever since I bought my Mini I've always had an issue with my fuel gauge. Today I filled up after getting down to the last notch on the gauge on my R56 justa. I purt 13.4 gallons in the tank tonight and when I started my car up to leave I was 4 "clicks" away from being full. I know it should have been all the way full, it usually is only off by 2 but never like how it was tonight. I am not sure if it is worth trying to fix this and what the fix is. Is this something that can be done "at home" or only through a shop?

Fuel gauge problems are usually one of two problems. Sending unit / float or a grounding problem.

This actually happened to me before but I saw that it only put in like 8 gallons which was not enough to fill it. So the pump shutoff did not work properly. Given that you put in that much fuel, I would also assume it is due to the float being stuck or some kind of wiring issue as Mike stated.
