Against better judgment i waited and let dealer do first oil change at around 8 or 9k. Now I am doing myself in between at around 4 or 5k.
What kind of oil are you DIY's using? I see that Detroit tuned sells the Royal Purple in there oil change kits and i assume that D&R are using OEM MINI oil, of course you know what they say about assumptions.
Any suggestions are always appreciated. thanks, Corey

I use Castrol syn-tec, that is what the oem oil is. Would suggest keeping with that too avoid any warrantee issues.

I use either Castrol syn-tec or Mobil1 Full synthetic. I hear a lot of MINI owners on NAM use Mobil1

I'm a Moble1 5/30 kind of guy. Got the oil changes down to a 20 minute process. I change on a 5k cycle.

This is an oldish discussion, but here it goes. I'm about to do my first oil change on my own on my base R56 (09). I'm going to use Casterol Synthetic 5w30 and I already bought an adapter that fits the top of the oil filter housing. Here where I'm a little nervous. I've never done an oil change on my own let alone on a Minni. I have notes from what was done by the previous owner and it's noted that Fram filters done fit. What is the best filter to get? Does it come with the gaskets that the videos Ive watched online talk about for the oil plug and the filter? Am I over thinking things?

I have always used the OEM filters, it is not a high cost item anyway. Don't recall if it came with the drain plug washer, but believe that the OEM filter came with all appropriate gaskets for the filter.
