My '08 MCS is showing signs of timing chain issues again.....D&R replaced the tensioner @ 15k miles, then the whole chain/guide/tensioner cartridge at 19k miles.....then the whole chain/guide/tensioner assembly AGAIN at 49k miles. I'm at 81k miles now and the rattle has once again emerged. Ugh. I'm religious about maintenance and oil changes and they have been done with MINI approved oil at least twice or three times as often as MINI advises throughout the life of the car. This is a major design flaw! This timing chain thing is becoming more of a "maintenance operation" than a major repair. If this is going to happen every 30k miles, it probably makes more sense to move onto something else.....but I just love MINIs (this is my 2nd one) and I've already replaced the water pump, thermostat, and the brakes recently on this car, so other issues/wear items are kind of taken care of already. Of course I'm well out of warranty now and am on my own. I'm considering buying the lock-down tools for the cams and doing it myself. Anyone here on the forum that's local and who's done the job themselves? Would welcome any pointers/advice. Thanks. Chris
