Any recent suggestions for all-season regular (non-runflat) tires for a Cooper? I've been perusing the forums to get some ideas, but it looks like the last post on tires was from Dec. 2010. Right now, I don't know wheel-size or exact year of Cooper as I'm trying to gather info for a friend who recently bought Continental Extremecontact DWS. She is not happy with them: they cause extreme vibration at 65-70 mph even though brand new. She's had them balanced several times, and it hasn't helped. She's now looking for new tires to try. Thanks! Brett

Did they check the wheels for true and straightness.

I bought some Yokahama Envigor's and have been happy. The ride is a lot better than the RF bricks that came on the Clubman. Priced them on tirerack then went to discount tire and they matched the price.

Yeah, she took it back 3 times after the initial work, and they rebalanced them... 3 times. They then put on a whole new set because they thought maybe something was wrong with the original set, and she had the same issues. (they being Discount Tire) I did a bit of poking on NAM after talking to her some more and it looks like some other people are unhappy with the tires she got (Continental ExtremeContact DWS 16"). Of course there were also happy people, so no telling...

Rereading minidriver's post because my reading comprehension is apparently NO GOOD. I know they checked balance, do not know if they checked the wheels themselves. Will also run that by her.
Thanks for the suggestion @ apexslide! I had seen those mentioned around. And since she's going through Discount Tire, the price matching is a good suggestion.

I just bought the same brand. 205 17in size. Had alignment done and had to replace front lower control arm bushing. The ride and noise level is very good now, than from before. Old tires had some cupping in them on the rear. Gas milage has improved to.

I just went with a size bigger 215/45/R17 Yokoham YK580. www.yokohamatire.com/tires/detail/yk580 They rub just sightly on the rear over large bumps with the the the springs that are installed right now but they have been great in this weather. Did a lot of reading to figure out the right tire for the cold. Haven't bought anything but summer tires in years. BTW... first post on the forums. Lived over on the west side of Avon for about 6 months now. Decided it was time to look up the local club. Moved here from Florida and before that Arizona. Been active in the clubs everywhere I have been. So HI!

Welcome. Plainfield as well.
As far a tires Im running the Kumho Escta ASX all season. I couldnt be happier with them. Treadwear is 420 AA A.
Tire to avoid Bridgestone Potenza Grid G019's they are ungodly loud.

I'm retracting my like for the Yokahama Envigor's. Put 21k on them and they are mostly bald. Road noise was really getting to me too. You will never hear all positive reviews of anything but I'm disapointed with the Yoka's. I rotated them 3 times and even had an alignment due to a little issue D&R had in the service bay. I'm not an extremely agressive driver, but it's a MINI so you have to have a little fun.
Initially the Yoka's grip and handling was great, ride was much improved over the RF's. Went back to Discount Tire and they helped me get $ back on the warranty. I made the move over to the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 17's. I just hope they hold up because I can't be replacing tires every 21K miles.
BTW: I'm in Plainfield too.

At least the DWS has a 50,000 mile tread life warranty. That is what I'm going to put on Wanda's Countryman soon.

I put a set of the Conti DWS's on about a 1000 miles ago. I haven't been impressed with the snow/cold weather traction so far (not bad, but not very good either). Granted there hasn't been much snow thus far, but I had expected better. More sidewall flex as well, but that's to be expected. Time will tell, obviously.

Time to ditch RF's. Wondering what has worked for you countryman owners in a non-RF all season. Know some have gone with the con-dws's which I believe have been fazed out by the control contact sports but still wondering how others have faired? Also considering Pirelli p7's and maybe the kumho ecsta pa31's... Price is less important than quality due to long commutes in the unpredictable Indiana winters. As always, your wealth of knowledge and input is always appreciated. corey

Sorry to hear the Con-dws have been discontinued. I have them on my MINI(not Countryman) during the winter and love them.
