As a nubie who's made dome light sacrfice I wanted to share as a courtesy.
During recent rattle investigation, I thought a nickel had been mysteriously placed above my dome/cabin light. I removed the lense with a gentle prying of the side. No fasteners were present and I made errant assumption that the engineer had designed the lite housing the same simplicity of the lens. The force exerted enabled the housing to be removed, only at the expense of the locking tabs. This enhanced my aggravation. And now seemed to symbolize the visual equivalent of my previously audible only quandry.
HINT there are two holes to the starboard and port sides of the light bulb. With a large paperclip, you can relieve the "locking" function and allow the housing to drop from the beam across the center of the headliner.
However, if this procedure is not followed the remaining parts of the houseing can be removed with a drill and a 1" long threadless plastic fastener can be substituted to hold you "modified" light into the headliner snug.
I believe this would be classified as a "mod" but not something I'd recommend.
Cheers!
