We can hope for the road course, but last time it was the oval.

i'm praying... taking the nimble little mini on the oval makes about as much sense taking an american "sports" car on the road course. all seriousness though isn't thing going to be close to the same time as the nascar thing? it probably will be the oval...

OK MINICCI members and Friends we need your assistance.
We have been asked by MINI USA as part of the MTTS 2010 event to come up with some oddities and scenic stops that we think our visiting MINI Friends from other parts of the country should check out.
These should be in and around the Indianapolis area or on the way toward St. Louis.
Give me your suggestions and I will compile a list. Let's show off Indiana.

I am hearing that the lap around the Speedway will be Monday and not Tuesday as currently posted on MINIUSA. Late afternoon (4:30 starting check in), so keep checking back to see what the final official word is.

Since Greencastle is on the way to St. Louis, I can think of some interesting sights this way. We have a buzz bomber on our town square, and IN-240 has some twists and turns as you enter town. This may be a bit out of the way but thought I would suggest. I also believe that the city would be fine with many MINIs coming through.

It is official, MTTS will be doing the IMS track tour on Monday August 9th. They will stage cars from 2:00-4:00 with the lap around the track at 4:30. Dreyer & Reinbold is still working on the details, but they are planing on a BBQ/Cook Out after the drive around the track, check back for details. www.eventjack.com/registration/minitakesthestates2010/route.html

A drive around the Circle would be a must, I would think? Maybe a short drive past the capital building & White River St Park, zoo, Eiteljorg, etc. (US 40) on the way to the 500 track? A short jump off I-70 near Cloverdale and drive thru Lieber / Cataract Falls on St Rd. 42?

a return trip to the Vandalia Dragon on 70 like in 2006. Broad Ripple & Mass Ave. for night spots. The Conrad is the host hotel so some people will be downtown. I know we have some folks staying with us from Florida. With suggestions we might want to keep in mind that a bunch of these people will be heading back this way & might need suggestions as to places to eat on the drive back also.

Not knowing the exact route they are taking makes it a little difficult since there are bunches of alternate ways to get to St. Louis besides just hopping on I-70 Coming into Indy there are always the old stand bys of Schimpff's Confectionery in Jeffersonville (if they are going through Louisville) Albanese Confectionery in Merriville, Fair Oaks Farm in Winamac for the Chicago Run, Katzinger's Deli and the Book Loft in Columbus, OH, the Wright Pat Museum in Dayton, the Bookery (comic shop), & Daisy Barrel (Needlework stuff) in Fairborn, OH Wilbur Wright's Boyhood Home, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, The gym where Hoosiers was filmed is in Knightstown for that leg. We could always check out- www.roadsideamerica.com/location/in/allAdd to Indy Hinkle Fieldhouse & the IMA's new sculpture garden, oh and the State Fair will going on at that time. The Rathskeller for german food & beer. On the way out Square Donuts in Terre Haute, the Exotic Feline Rescue Center (gravel road might be an issue). If we are suggesting passing through Greencastle I would suggest stopping at Marvin's which is the typical College hangout (you need to check if they would be open that early). If the route is cutting through Springfield, IL then you have the Cozy Dog (home of the first corndog). There is also the Moonshine Store in Moonshine , IL (pop.2) which serves the best hamburgers ever as long as you get there before Helen turns off the grill. North of Indy in Alexandria, IN is the World's Largest Ball of Paint (might want to call ahead on that one- since it does take some time for the paint to dry.) While traveling around the circle would be neat... traffic might be an issue could they round up a police escort? Alternate routes that would bypass all the construction on 465 on the westside would be a good idea to suggest. As with any suggestion making sure the location is open at the time they are going through, some quirky places have quirky hours.

I went to the link posted but I don't see a category to sign up if I am just able to do Indianapolis. If we are not going to Denver does that mean we can't go around the track? And what of the Indy volunteers? Will they just have to watch everyone else cruise the IMS?
